Italian lakes in 4 days
DAY 1 - ARRIVAL, LAKE MAGGIORE AND BORROMEAN ISLANDS
Arrival in the morning at Milan airport and pick-up of rented car. Road to Lake Maggiore. In the afternoon possibility of a boat trip to the Borromean Islands: stop at Isola Bella for a visit to the Borromean Palace (Medals Room, Napoleon Room, the “Caves”) and its gardens with the terrace called the amphitheatre. Then stop at Fishermen’s Island with its typical houses.
Overnight in the Lake Maggiore region.
DAY 2 - LAKE COMO
Breakfast. Day trip to Lake Como. In the morning stop for a walk to explore the city centre and its lakeside. Late morning visit to Baroque Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, with wonderful gardens overlooking the lake. In the afternoon drive to Lake Garda and overnight.
DAY 3 - VERONA AND LAKE GARDA
Breakfast. Departure to visit the city of Verona and its most important monuments: the Roman Arena, large amphitheatre built towards the end of the 1st century, able to hold 25,000 spectators, Via Mazzini, with its fashionable shops, Piazza delle Erbe, colourful and lively with its market and its palaces and old houses, Piazza dei Signori with the facade of the Palace of the Comune, the Loggia del Consiglio and the Prefecture, the Arche Scaligere, small mausoleums in Gothic style of the Scaligeri family. And of course, the balcony of Juliet’s house with its statue. In the afternoon walk to discover the beautiful historic centre of Sirmione, with its castle on the shores of Lake Garda. Overnight.
DAY 4 - MILAN AND DEPARTURE
After breakfast departure to Milan. In the morning, visit the economic capital of the country, with its historic centre, the magnificent cathedral, Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, Scala Square, the beautiful Palazzo Marino, Castello Sforzesco, the Monumental Cemetery, the financial districts.
In the afternoon, return of the car at the airport and departure.
